“Ask Boomer Al”
Issue #17; October 21, 2002
Dear Al,
A few weeks ago I read your advice to a Christian
woman who was living with her fiancée. You were
hard on her. Good men are hard to find.
I enjoy reading your column every week but you
should ease up a bit.
Signed,
Avid Reader
Dear Avid Reader,
Thank you for being a regular reader and taking
time to write.
While the column is for entertainment only, I do
realize that on occasion people send in questions
they are struggling with because they can get input
and remain anonymous.
Our Christian gal was asking for the answer she
got by throwing in she was Christian. It’s like
saying I’m the town sheriff but I rob banks on
the side because it’s expensive raising kids today.
You’re either true to your principles or you’re not.
She could have spun the question any way she cared to.
Good men are hard to find for some women but they
shouldn’t be. There are plenty of good men who would
make fine mates. It all depends on where you’re looking
and what you want. And don’t tell me all the good ones
are married either.
What do you say men. How about sending in some comments
about how to find a good man? I dare ya!
Al
Dear Boomer Al,
I’m sixteen and my parents are hard on me. I have a
curfew of 11PM even on weekends. My boyfriend’s is midnight.
I get good grades and stay out of trouble. All my other
friends’ curfew is 12 or 1AM.
They still threaten to ground me over the smallest things.
What do you think?
Signed,
Smothered
Dear Smothered,
I know the High School years can be a lot of fun. Your social
life is an important part of school as you learn to conduct
yourself in a responsible and safe manner.
Be happy your parents love you enough to care where you are
and with whom. You are still at a very vulnerable age, and this
can be a very dangerous world. I feel your curfew is very
appropriate for your age. I think prom night or a function of
some type when your parents know where you are could probably
be negotiated on a situational basis.
My children negotiated the return time by day. I sometimes
permitted the later hours. My daughter got me a few times by
staying over a friends house who had more liberal parents but
when I discovered what was up it cost her trust and more
restrictive rules.
Show your parent that you can be trusted by obeying the rules
as they are for now. You will be rewarded later as you establish
your trustworthiness.
Please remember to never be afraid to call your parents if you
feel you are in a situation that is getting out of hand. They would
be heartbroken to think you feared their discipline more than you
understood their love for you.
Parenting is very difficult. You will learn that for yourself
someday. For the present, give them the benefit of the doubt that
they have your best interests at heart.
I’m proud of you for getting good grades and staying out of trouble.
Al

_.·´¯)What's up with this?(¯`·._
In a letter to the editor of the local Scripts Howard publication ...
One writer responded that the comparison of the Bush administration
to Hitler's government was appropriate. Really. I think a number
of people would beg to differ with you.
I find it amazing that we elect leaders then we refuse to let them
lead. Will I vote for Bush next time? I don't know today about
three years from now ... but if the election were tomorrow absolutely. I learned all I needed to know about this man from the pitchers mound
in Yankee Stadium following 9/11.
Out he walks alone, an easy target, and says to the world, here's to you.
We will not be intimidated. This is our country.
This is a man's man loyal to his principles, his family, and his faith.
We've done worse my friends!
Just my opinion. Don't like it? So tell me off at ...

Teasing can often bring a good laugh. Just know who you're teasing.
Some people are very sensitive and the old line that there
is some truth in every tease lingers in people's minds.
Be known for your supportive friendly ways. it will open many
doors for you in life. Listen with your heart.
