Issue #28, January 13, 2003
Dear Al,
I don’t want to beat this topic to death but I read
your replies the last two weeks to the “naturists”.
I too am a naturist and proud of it.
You said it’s unhealthy and uncomfortable. I beg to
differ. Naturism has been proven to lower your blood
pressure and stress level. The feeling of freedom is
inexplicable. All people should at least try it before
they judge it. Thank you.
Avid Naturist
Dear Avid,
Isn’t that a bug? Well anyway, you misread my answer.
The first writer was not a naturist, just a nervous
vacationer.
I stand by what I said. If sun is unhealthy for people
in bathing suits it surely is such for people who are
nude. I also think that sand just has to be uncomfortable.
I assume you are all comfortable with everyone else’s
hygiene so you just sit where ever you care to. I’ll keep
my pants on thank you.
As far as blood pressure is concerned, I’ll bet the guy
with the binoculars is having problems.
Just call me natural Al
Dear Boomer Al,
After church last Sunday in our social hall I noticed a
lady yelling at then spanking her 3-4 year old child who
was crying and screaming while she spoke to other people.
I noticed the child was wearing a heavy coat with the
hood on and I went over to suggest that the child was
probably hot. The lady blew up at me and told me to mind my
own business. I was very surprised by her reaction.
Did I do the right thing?
Hurt
Dear Hurt,
Referring to this woman as a lady is going some. Children
can be very exasperating at times and it takes patience and
maturity to deal with it. Public spankings should be avoided.
They are damaging to the child’s self esteem as public
humiliation would be to anyone.
The child was probably warm and perhaps hungry or tired or
all the above and more. Mommy dearest I’m sure knew the problem
but was unconcerned at the moment. The reaction you received
was more for embarrassing her in front of others rather than
whether you were right or not. The behavior may have been out
of character for her too.
You did what you felt was right. It took courage to step forward
like that so stop feeling badly. Forget it. There are many bad
parents in the world. The children seem to survive it most of the
time. The problem is they duplicate and perpetuate it.

I see where HBO has hired Bill Maher to host a talk show
designed to "keep everybody honest; to note that what public
figures say, they then have to do; when they don't to point
it out and mock it."
Right up his alley I would say. Read his comments from September
17, 2001 ...
"We have been cowards, lobbing cruise missiles from 2000 miles
away. That's cowardly. Staying in an airplane when it hits the
building, say what you want about it, it's not cowardly."
He never retracted the remarks choosing merely to explain he
really meant the politicians, not the soldiers. Sure. The man
will do or say anything to be provacative. Just what the families
needed to hear a week after the terrible day.
The new show sounds like a cross between Charlie Rose and Dennis
Miller but I fear Maher is not in their league. HBO must owe
someone a favor. I'd rather watch Sponge Bob any day. Gee Sponge
Bob could use an eel character.
Just my opinion. Don't like it? So tell me off at ...

Q: What is the definition of poise?
A: The ability to keep talking when the other guy reaches for

"I worked real hard to learn to play first base. In the
beginning, I used to make one terrible play a game.
Then, I got so I'd make one a week, and finally, I'd pull
a real bad one maybe once a month. At the end. I was
trying to keep it down to one a season."
