Issue#36; March 10, 2003
Dear Al
I’m a 33 year old female and I think I’m being taken
advantage of at work. I’m doing the job of three people.
My boss is nice and keeps saying he’s going to give me
a raise but still hasn’t.
I’m also never invited to lunch or closed door meetings
with “the boys”! What more can I do? Please help!
Frustrated
Dear Frustrated
I understand your frustration, but let’s look at this
calmly. The fact that a male supervisor is obviously
being short sighted about your value to the business is
nothing new.
This is not a good time in the economic cycle to be
changing jobs. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t polish
up your resume. People like you are extremely valuable
and someone will recognize that. Keep your frustrations
to yourself and continue to do what is asked of you and
move on when the opportunity presents itself.
You are not going to change the thinking where you are
nor should you have to. I know it doesn’t seem fair, but
having a stable income right now is more valuable than
fair. Your loss will be felt.
Al
Dear Boomer Al
I have a female colleague who keeps coming into my office
to complain to me about the boss and everything on her
mind even when I’m on the phone.
She makes gestures and it’s very distracting. I’ve even
shut my door and spoken to her about it but she keeps
doing it. I don’t want to get her in trouble. Thanks.
James
Dear James
Something else is going on here. This woman is not looking
for advice as much as your attention I think. You haven’t
said anything about that end of it but guys are famous
for being numb in such areas. She must also be getting
the message from you somehow that you enjoy the attention.
You need to sit down and have a talk and get to the bottom
of it and tell her how you really feel about things. Failing
that, you have to talk to your boss and let him or her deal
with it.
You might hint that you have this rare contagious disease
that causes all your hair to fall out. Borrow some hair from
the barber and spread it around your chair. You will find
that people will no longer be an issue at work.

_.·´¯)What's up with this?(¯`·._
I read a shocking column in this morning's paper about the
shameful behavior in Wisconsin. It seems that the county
fair will never be the same now that "fitters" have been
exposed for tampering with the cow utters in an attempt
to win the bovine swimsuit competition. Utterly disgusting.
It's time to get this Iraq thing over with. The war will last
a week. The debate has gone on for twelve years. Really.
There has been much talk about how the conservative radio
personalities have overrun the radio. To be fair I spent the
week looking for liberal radio personalities to listen to.
I found this one gal who I guess has been on the air for
some time. I couldn't believe the hysterics and the outright
distortions of even mundane issues. I found myself incapable
of listening for any amount of time.
Fifteen year mortgages are a great deal for the bank. That's
why they reduce the interest. Do your homework.
Just my opinion. Don't like it? So tell me off at ...

I didn't know if my granddaughter has learned her colors
yet, so I decided to test her. I would point out something
and ask her what color it was. She would tell me and
always she was correct. But it was fun for me, so I continued.
At last she headed for the door, saying sagely, "Grandma, I
think you should try to figure out some of these yourself."

"You will suddenly realize that the reason you never
changed before was because you didn't want to"
Robert H. Schuller
Let's face it. Change is always difficult. We tend to
change when forced to. Too bad we don't entertain the
idea before the crisis rather than after.
What must you change before it's too late? Vow to begin
the process today. You can if you want to.
Have fun. It's later than you think.
