Ask Boomer Al
Issue 38; March 24, 2003
Dear Boomer Al
I remember reading in one of your columns that you’re
a veteran of the Viet Nam War. What is your opinion
of the conflict with Iraq? Thanks.
Fred
Dear Fred
Yes Fred, I served in the US Navy in the security area
during the Viet Nam war. My brother was a combat veteran
of the Cambodian offensive. War is an awful thing
regardless of which end of the conflict you’re on.
I do feel that the Iraqi people suffered much more than
the rest of the world could know so I am very glad the
president had the courage to act.
History is the ultimate test of what is right and wrong.
I find many of the most opinionated people are the most
poorly informed. The Iraqi leadership boiled people in
acid and ground people alive like hamburger so for one
I could care less whether they find any weapons of mass
destruction. I say a deed well done for the sake of
civilization.
The Pope is being the Pope, but the French and Russians
have much to hide about their dealings with Iraq, not
to mention Syria and Iran. The Turks are also lusting
after that northern oil field which may be why they did
not want our troops in their country.
That part of the world is froth with tribal conflict and
an attitude about life the average westerner cannot
comprehend. It will be a complex area for our troops.
I do feel we did what we must. Many will not agree. Then
again it doesn’t make them correct does it. Despite the
whining, we have always left a place better than we found
it so the blood for oil whine is a political ploy. The time
for street protest was before the war. Not now.
So what is this I read about an Al Qeida camp on the Iraq
northern border? Hmmm …
Al
Dear Boomer Al
I have a nineteen year old son. Do you think the USA
will start up the draft again and do you think they should?
Concerned Mother
Dear Mom
I hope so. It is normal for parents, not just mothers to be
concerned for the welfare of their children. I was concerned
for my kids.
I do feel however that military service is an excellent place
for all young men and women to spend a couple of years serving
the country that gives them an opportunity to live the affluent
and full potential life they live.
I can think of no maturing experience better than thirteen
weeks of boot camp and a couple of years taking orders to
develop a healthy respect for authority that is sadly lacking
in many of our youth today.
The military is also an excellent place for young people to
advance their education or learn a skill that could help them
earn a living after service. It also makes a fine career for some.
My opinion and I’m free to have it because great Americans died
so I could. I know it goes both ways.
God Bless our troops and our President. They need our prayers.
Al
PS; Please call or write your Congressman about fully funding the
VA so veterans can get the medical care they are entitled to.

_.·´¯)What's up with this?(¯`·._
As usual our military is performing with precision
and honor. Being a veteran I remember the disappointment
we felt as we viewed the young students violently
protesting in the streets. It gives more aid and
comfort to the enemy than it changes policy. Such
protests encourages the enemy and prolongs the conflict.
Why is it that every time we get into a fight we play
by the rules while our enemy seems to do any type of
horror they choose without so much as a public outcry
from the rest of the world.
I commented in the past that the real reasons for the
trouble from the Russians and French and others. Now we
are seeing it ... The russians are actually in Bagdad as
we speak training Iraqi soldiers on how to use the
weapons they sold them. The French, as we already know,
sold the Iraqis solid rocket fuel. So these are
friends are they?
So what's up with the actors? Think about it ... movies
are an international business. It's always about the
money folks. Actors think they speak for the weak. Maybe
they could learn to appreciate the freedom that allowed
them to get wealthy doing their play thing.
It's time to shut down Iraqi state TV.
Just my opinion. Don't like it? So tell me off at ...

I am surely tired of those who constantly describe our
country in negative terms. I hear complaints but not
many solutions to anything. Instead of what is bad,
how about what is right for a change.
Have fun. It's later than you think.
